Badrinath Temple is indeed a prominent and highly revered temple located near Rishikesh in the Chamoil District ,the state of Uttarakhand, India.

Badrinath Temple is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites in Hinduism, along with Yamunotri, Gangotri, and Kedarnath.

It is situated in the town of Badrinath, which is approximately 300 kilometers from Rishikesh.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is considered one of the 108 Divya Desams, sacred shrines of Vishnu mentioned in the ancient Hindu scriptures.

Badrinath Temple is nestled amidst the picturesque Garhwal Himalayas, near the banks of the Alaknanda River. Badrinath  Temple also called Badri Vishal or Badri Narayana Temple.

The temple is believed to have been established by Adi Shankaracharya, a renowned Hindu philosopher and theologian, in the 9th century.

The deity worshipped at Badrinath Temple is Lord Badri Vishal, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

The temple's architecture showcases the traditional North Indian style, with intricate carvings and a colorful facade.

The main festival celebrated at Badrinath Temple is the Badri-Kedar festival, which takes place during the months of June and July.

Badrinath Temple visiting is a significant pilgrimage for Hindus , also attracts devotees and tourists from all over the world. The temple is generally open from April (in 2023 it open 27 July) to November, and during the winter months, the deity is shifted to the nearby village of Joshimath.

Road journey from Rishikesh to Badrinath Temple

Start from Rishikesh: Rishikesh is a popular spiritual town and a gateway to the Himalayas. It's well-connected by road. You begin your journey from Rishikesh and head towards the town of Joshimath. You can start journey by public bus or share care or hire a care , but make sure Driver have enough experience to drive that road.

 

Rishikesh to Devprayag: The first leg of the journey takes you from Rishikesh to Devprayag, a distance of approximately 74 kilometers. The road follows the course of the Ganges River and offers beautiful views of the river valley.

 

Devprayag to Srinagar: From Devprayag, you continue on the National Highway 58 and proceed towards Srinagar, which is around 34 kilometers away. Srinagar is known for its serene surroundings and is situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River.

 

Srinagar to Rudraprayag: After Srinagar, you travel another 34 kilometers to reach Rudraprayag. This is an important junction where the Alaknanda River merges with the Mandakini River. The confluence of these rivers offers a breathtaking sight. From Rudraprayag to  Badrinath Temple passes through the mountainous terrain of the Garhwal Himalayas. The route involves driving through hilly areas with steep ascents and descents, as well as winding roads with hairpin bends. Rudraprayag to Chamoli: From Rudraprayag, you continue on NH 58 and proceed towards Chamoli, approximately 40 kilometers away. Chamoli is a scenic town nestled amidst the Garhwal Himalayas and serves as the district headquarters. 

Chamoli to Joshimath: The next leg of the journey takes you from Chamoli to Joshimath, a distance of about 46 kilometers. The road ascends higher into the mountains, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. Joshimath is an important town and acts as the base for the winter seat of Badrinath Temple. 

Joshimath to Badrinath: From Joshimath, the final stretch of the journey is from Joshimath to Badrinath, covering a distance of approximately 44 kilometers. The road climbs higher into the mountains, with numerous hairpin bends and steep sections. Joshimath, being located in the Garhwal Himalayas, is prone to landslides due to its mountainous terrain and varying weather conditions. Landslides can occur in the region during heavy rainfall, snowfall, or seismic activity.
